Goal

The purpose of the project is to protect the environment at sea and in the surrounding coastal areas.

When an oil spill occurs at sea, a considerable effect is seen on the environment at sea and on the surrounding coastal areas. The ecosystems will be threatened, and the economical consequences for humans, countries, maritime industries and authorities can add up to substantial values. Large oil spills at sea occur monthly from oil tankers, oil production fields and from coastal onshore installations. Recent examples include Grønsund (2001), Bornholm - Gdynia (2003), the Statfjord field (2007, and Prøvestenen (2008).

Well-developed oil cleaning response and training procedures as well as first class equipment is crucial for a proper and fast reaction to oil spills. Proper and continous training of all actors is crucial and the equipment consisting of vessels, floating barriers, screw pumps, oil skimming equipment et cetera, need to be first class.

Description
