Monotower unmanned platform - Completed
Goal
This development project focuses on a new type of oil production platform. The aim is to achieve cost reductions concerning the installation and exploitation of marginal oil and gas fields. If positive results are achieved the development project, the effect of the project could be exploitation of many new marginal oil and gas fields in the North Sea, likely resulting in a nine-figure € income for companies and for society.
Description
Monotowers for carrying of unmanned oil and gas platforms must be dimensioned for 4 wellheads, risers and atopside of 200 to 300 tonnes. A safe installation and operation of the platform, with due consideration to the harsh North Sea conditions are required. A max. water depth of this type of installation must be determined. Access to the platform must be possible by MOB boat (Man Over Board boat) like the current practice on the STAR platforms. So far, studies indicate that the main challenge of monotower support of platforms, is the platform dynamics (vibration in waves), which entail adwirse circumstances of the development project which will focus on platform dynamics, but also encompass general studies of e.g., the geological seabed profiles and their influence on the stability of the platform construction.
Mile Stones
- Project installation analysis.
- Coverage of technical possibilities and restrictions by use of monotowers for offshore platforms.
- Coverage of possibilities for further cost reduction in connection with fabrication, design and installation of monotower platform constructions
- Further recommendations
Results
If positive results of the development project will be achived, the effect could be exploitation of new marginal oil and gas fields in the North Sea, resulting in an prolongation of the vital energy supplies from the North Sea for many years to come, combined with a good profitability for companies and society.
