LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) - Completed
Goal
In the past, natural gas was considered a waste product. However, new transportation techniques have today made the huge offshore gas deposits available in all markets of the world. The technique involves cooling the natural gas to a cryogenic liquid (LNG) for transportation.
The LNG-demand (Liquified Natural Gas) is expected to be trebled in the course of the next 20 years.
Considerations to the danger and risk moment are quite important, since natural gas is explosive. Therefore there are big requirements to the ships, terminals and the handling on the way.
The Danish knowledge within the natural gas area is unique, and this knowledge is applied in this project to investigate new concepts.
An evaluation of the possible methods for extensive research within LNG will be expensive, and therefore it is very important that research is made in order to identify the feasible methods and technologies. The evaluation is the contents of this pilot project.
The results of the pilot project will be available for all interested at an open seminar arranged by Offshore Center Danmark (OCD) and Aalborg University Esbjerg (AUE).
Furthermore AUE will use the results of the project for educational purposes.
Description
Participants: Cowi, DHI, AUE, EU Vest and Offshore Center Danmark.
The project includes the identification and preparations of proposals for low-cost, secure and environmentally friendly methods for near-shore transportation of LNG.
