Energy Efficiency - Completed
Goal
The goal of the energy efficiency project is "energy efficient Danish production of oil and gas and Danish SMEs environmental competencies." You may look at possibilities of getting an energy efficient Danish production in many ways. As a result of the project the conclusion is that we will investigate aluminium as a construction material of topside. One of the qualities of aluminium is that it may reduce the energy consumption by transportation and installation of topside.
Likewise, decommissioning the platform will have financial gains, as reuse of the materials is almost 100%.
The Danish SMEs within aluminium get a boost into the offshore industry with this project.
Description
Topside of an unmanned platform made of aluminium has never been conducted in the Danish shelf.
Based on tests on a topside made from steel as usual an analysis can prove if a topside made from aluminium – and thus with a different design - may be used as a substitution for a steel topside.
Mile Stones
The first milestone is to find a design that can take into account aluminium weaknesses and strengths. Second milestone is to calculate profiles of the platforms for the given loads. And the third milestone is to investigate whether piping and equipment can be placed at the aluminium platform.
Results
The result is an alternative to "normal" topside produced in steel.
Kick-off and a number of meetings had being hold to ensure that a sustainable model may serve as a future alternative to steel. With topside less than 350 tons can use aluminium as construction material if the structure is build after an new form. The structure weight will be reduced with about 75% of a normal steel construction.
